In Memoriam

Dr. Laddie Ponnaiya, former English Teacher, passed away on 20th October at 9.15 pm at the CMC Hospital, Vellore. He was 78. His end was peaceful with his nieces and brother with him. He has been buried at the Indian Christian Cemetery on Hosur Road in Bangalore. Dr. Ponnaiya was dearly loved by all who knew him, and will be missed, especially by all his students.

Born in South India, Barrie was the third of four sons of a missionary family stretching back, on his mother’s side, to 1838. He attended “Highclerc School” during the Second World War and completed his education in England, gaining a first class honours degree in mathematics at Cambridge University in 1953. He took teacher training and was an engaging and stimulating educator.
