GENE HENNIG PASSES

Dear KIS Alumni,

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the death of Gene Hennig, Class of 1965. He passed away on Tuesday, 25th August. He is survived by his wife, Kristy, and their three children.

Gene attended Loch End School from 1957 to 1961 and continued at KIS (then known as Highclerc School) from 1961 to 1965. He served on the KIS Council until his retirement in 2014. He was also on the Board of Kodai Woodstock International, Inc. (KWI) from 1999 to 2006 and was a founder and subsequent board member of Kodai Friends International, Inc. (KFI ) from 2006 to 2014.

Gene was the recipient of the Margaret Eddy Award this past year for his distinguished work and significant contribution to KIS. He was especially instrumental and passionate about providing the school with a new pipe organ for the KIS chapel. He last came to Kodai this past April to take part in Council meetings, and he and Kristy were able to attend Sunday worship service at the chapel and hear the music from the Organ that he and other alumni helped to make possible. Gene sensed at the time that this would be his last trip up the Kodai ghat. After Gene was presented with the Margaret Eddy Award, he spoke eloquently about his love for KIS and his wish that it remained a truly meaningful institution.  A man of great wisdom, warmth, insight and humor, Gene closed his speech by stating his intention to establish a KIS alumni chapter in Heaven.

He will be greatly missed.
